The UCU represents a wide range of staff at all stages of their careers in the UK’s higher education and research establishments. All academic and related staff, whether in pre- or post-1992 institutions, are eligible to join. Those members of staff catered for include:
- academics,
- researchers (including Postdoctoral Researchers and Medical Research Council staff),
- administrators,
- computer staff,
- librarians, and
- postgraduates employed to do teaching or related work.
Eligibility is not dependent on type of contract, and we represent permanent, full-time, fixed-term, part-time, and hourly-paid staff. The UCU can be of particular help to members on fixed-term contracts.
